🐛️Knowledge Lab🐛️

Knowledge Lab, taugh by Sara Black; gave me an amazing learning experience where there was a good space to lear farming, gardening, ceramics, and thoughtful use of available resources. The main theme was “THE HOLOBIONT COLLECTIVE” which means; all beings are entangeled in benefiting each other.

Knowledge Lab is a sculpture class:
SCULP 4018-001: Knowledge Lab: Entanglements
The Sculpture is THE MEAL - This course was designed for the class members to work towards a final collective project at the end of the semester to prepare a full meal from local resources: plants we planted, mushrooms we grew indoors, a table we built, and ceramics dinner wear we made.

Gardening invloved planting fruits, veggies, and flowers. Also growing mushrooms (indoors).
Also, the class collaborated to build a table from scratch; and make ceramics for dinner wear using natural clay harvested from Lake Michigan beach near Grand Rapids; processed in the ceramics lab at Ox-Bow art school in Michigan. The whole class went on this field trip.

The second field trip was to a local farmers farm to harvest veggies for the meal.

Pictures below takes us through the journey!

>The semester started with cleaning the beds and preparing them for the new seeds. In the very cold winter; we started wroking on it. This was a continuous process till the end of the semster until we started harvesting. I also passed by the garden in the summer after the class finished, and the garden looked amazing!

Pictures below are from our trip to lake Michigan and Ox-bow art school where we collected natural clay, and processed it in the Ox-bow ceramics lab. We also made a meal and tuned in before out finals.

After this trip came the apart where we started making the table and the ceramics. I was in the ceramics team; and not the table team. everyone rocked in their job. The clay we collected needed more processing to be perfect; which is not what our time allowed; we still make the ceramics, but after the big meal (the final) they broke. The picture show the samokes we tested and some of the processing phase!

The ceramics i made are in these pictures - unfortunately, most of the broke. I mixed the glazes for the team using the glazes available at SAIC.

Here is the final meal pcitures! The Sculpture! The Finale!

Sara Black was so generous she gifted us the “Holobiont Collective” Shirts!
